Imberhorne & Baldwins Neighbourhood Panel - SAFETY ARM BANDS

Safety Arm Bands in Imberhorne and Baldwins

Neighbourhood panel present safety arm bands to all primary school children
All children attending the four Primary Schools in the Imberhorne and Baldwins wards of East Grinstead have been presented with florescent “snap-it” arm bands by the local Neighbourhood Panel.

Members of the panel visited Halsford Park, Baldwins Hill, St Marys and St Peters schools and presented the arm bands to the children in their assemblies. Police Community Support Officers also attended the assemblies and reminded the children of the need to keep safe.

The Neighbourhood Panel decided that they would like to raise the childrens’ awareness of keeping safe during the winter months when the mornings and evenings are dark. The “snap-it” bands can be easily fitted onto coats as they simply curl round the arm with one movement. Once in position they provide a florescent band that is visible at night.

The cost of the arm bands for the one thousand children in the four schools was met by donations from Town Councillors who each used part of their ward budgets to fund the project. Donations were made by Cllrs Lee Marmara (Town Mayor), Christine Mainstone, Bernard Gilbard and Bob Mainstone.

The Neighbourhood Panel meet regularly to discuss and take action on local concerns and ideas. Panel members include local residents, Town Councillors and Police Community Support Officers.

Cllr Bob Mainstone explained, “The Imberhorne/Baldwins Neighbourhood Panel has achieved a lot in a short time. At our meetings we decide on three targets for our area. Then we discuss and decide how we can take action on these targets. When we first met the targets were mainly involved with trying to solve problems such as litter, parking, and speeding. Now the panel has become more interested in schemes that will bring something positive to the area and we have recently worked closely with the local school councils to find out what ideas young residents have for their community. The idea for the arm bands came from the children and we are very pleased to be able to provide them. Any residents who would like to join the panel are very welcome”.

The Photograph shows the Town Mayor and Mayoress with Councillors Gillbard and Mrs Mainstone, PCSO Joanna Graves and some of the pupils wearing their armbands.
